Who can use it

For low-income residents of Bexar and nearby counties: income under 180% of the federal poverty line (for example $28,170 for one person, $57,870 for four), people on SSI, disability, Medicaid, Medicare or SNAP, people out of work, people who are homeless, or people with big medical costs of their own.

• Emergency care only, and the vet must expect your pet to do well for about a year
• Apply before treatment; no help with bills you already owe or paid
• You must have applied for CareCredit and been turned down
• Not available if your vet agreed to a payment plan
• One grant per year
• Does not cover exams, x-rays, blood work, routine tests, dental care, spay or neuter, flea and tick care, or euthanasia
• Need proof of income and a written vet estimate

What it costs

• You must apply for CareCredit first. If CareCredit approves you, you don't qualify.
• Vouchers: Grant is paid straight to your vet when your pet goes home.

What they do

• grants toward emergency veterinary treatment plans, paid directly to the vet hospital
• pet food bank (separate program)
